Doc's Hilltop Sky Room

“Doc” Clearie’s Hilltop Sky Room, with its stunning nighttime view of the “Miracle Mile”, was “the” place to dine in Redding in the Fifties, Sixties and early Seventies, known for its fine food and atmosphere.

Whenever I talk to people about Doc’s they always recount fond memories of great meals and special events.  My hope is to create the same kind of memories here at Clearie’s.

Doc was a very engaging and entertaining man; he knew how to have a good time.  He made his guests feel special and welcome.  I want to re-create that same type of atmosphere here.

My mother worked for 25 years in this location when it was “The Shack”.  Generations of Redding residents fondly remember The Shack for its Broasted Chicken, Shack Burgers, Milk Shakes and of course, the Lounge.

alt The combined history of “The Shack” and “Doc’s” along with my family ties to both restaurants made for a very unique opportunity.  The outpouring of community support and enthusiasm for this project has been both heartwarming and overwhelming.  I thank you for being a part of it.

Some mementos from Doc's are on display in our lounge area.
